How can I get a copy of the journal prior to the day's session?
You may get an electronic copy of the most current calendar by
visiting the Journal section of this site. You can also find prior
Journals from the current and past legislative sessions as well.
You can also ask for a paper copy of the Journal by visiting the
document room located in the Kansas Statehouse. http://www.kslegislature.org/cgi-bin/journals/index.cgi
Why is the journal offered only in pdf?
PDF format was selected due to the importance of preserving the
format and the data contained within the Journal. Adobe PDF is
a universal file format that preserves all of the fonts, formatting,
colors, and graphics of any source document, regardless of the
application and platform used to create it. PDF files are compact
and can be shared, viewed, navigated, and printed exactly as intended
by anyone with a free Adobe Acrobat® Reader. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
What information is in the journal?
- Bill Introduction
- Resolution
- Motions adopted (including amendments)
- Committee references
- Messages from the Governor
- Recorded Votes
Where can I get a printed version of the Journal?
You may either print an electronic copy of the journal from our
calendar section, or you may request a printed copy of the Journal
from the document room located in the Kansas Statehouse.
Do you keep an archive of previous Journals?
Yes. An electronic copy of past journals is available in the Journal
section. The past Journals date back to the 1998 legislative session.
Who prints the Journals?
The Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives and the Secretary
of the Senate create the journals for their respective chambers.
The state printers office then posts the electronic copy to the
Web site. The state printers office also prints out the journal
for distribution of the paper copy through the document room.
When do the Journals come out?
Journals are made available the first business day following the
Journal's effective date. For example, a journal for March 5th
would be available the morning of the 6th assuming the 6th doesn't
fall on a weekend or holiday.
Who do I contact regarding the Journals?
The Chief
Clerk of the House and the Secretary
of the Senate create the House and Senate Journals respectively.
Questions concerning information within the Journal should be
directed to their offices. Please contact our help
desk if you are having technical problems with the Journals.
