Thomas A. Day, Director

Prior to assuming the duties of Director of Legislative Administrative Services, Tom served as the acting executive director for the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC), where he had been employed since 1987. Day served in many capacities during his 27-plus years with the Commission including Public Service Executive III which continued the responsibilities of legislative liaison and docket room manager, as well as, overseeing facilities of the KCC Topeka office. He began at the KCC serving as the administrative assistant to the chairman, to a management analyst and then an information resource specialist before being promoted to his current role in 1999. He served as the acting executive director of the KCC four times, the most recent beginning in June of 2014 until his departure to be the Director of Legislative Administrative Services in January 2015.

He is involved in a number of civic organizations and has served on the board of directors of the Boy’s Club of Lawrence, the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Industry; volunteered for the United Way of Lawrence; and served as agency coordinator for United Way of Topeka. He was a member of the Lawrence Jaycees, serving in every office including local president, and also served on the Kansas Jaycees Board in a number of positions, including state president and chairman of the board. He is currently active in the Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 9 AF&AM, Lawrence, and the Scottish Rite Masons, Lawrence Valley. Tom received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kansas and is a Proud Jayhawk.

Tom lives in Lawrence with his wife, Joyce. They have two sons, David in Lawrence, Michael in Goddard, and four grandsons.

Tom assumed the duties of the Director of Legislative Administrative Services on January 7, 2015.
