Can I get a listing of how committee members voted on certain legislation?

Committee votes are not recorded


What are the committees?

Committees are groups of legislators that meet to discuss and take action on bills that have a particular topic. Legislators are assigned to committees by the leadership of their respective chambers.


Are committee meetings open to the public?

Yes. All committee meetings are public meetings which maybe attended by members of the public. There are several procedures to follow if you wish to testify before a committee. Please see our education information in the committees section of this site.


How can I get a copy of the committee schedules?

Committee schedules are available in the committee section of this site or by clicking here. You may get a list of bills being worked by a particular committee by viewing the current calendar.

Where can I park if I want to attend a Committee meeting?

There are a number of off street parking stalls surrounding the Capitol. These spots do have meters and have strictly monitored time limits. Caution should be taken to avoid a parking ticket. During the legislative session, these spots fill up very fast. Please allow extra time to ensure arriving to your appointments on time. Handicap parking is available in the Capitol parking lot.


Who do I contact to know more about a certain committee?

There is a secretary assigned to each committee. This will be your best source for obtaining information about a particular committee. You can find secretary's names and phone numbers for each committee in the current calendar.


What are conference committees?
Conference committees are committees with membership from both the House and the Senate. It is the job of these legislators to meet on a particular bill in hopes of agreeing to a single language for that bill that both chambers can agree to.


Where can I get the minutes from a particular committee meeting?
The secretary assigned to that committee keeps committee minutes. You may obtain a copy of the minutes from the secretary of the committee you are interested in. Most minutes are also available from the committee section of this site.


What are the duties and responsibilities of the committees?
Committees play an integral part in the legislative process. Bills are assigned to a particular committee based on their subject. Once a bill has been assigned to a committee, it will can be passed through to the full chamber for consideration, amended or not acted upon where it will eventually "die" and not ever be seen by the full chamber for consideration.


Where can I get a map of the Capitol if I need to attend a committee meeting?

Floor plans of the capitol are not available for security reasons.


How can I get a list of the members on a committee?
You may get a list of the membership of all committees from the committee section of this site.


Are there committee meetings held after the session ends?

Yes. Interim committees are held throughout the year to discuss bills and topics that might be taken into consideration during the upcoming legislative session. Interim committees are made up of member from both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
