The Chair resumed the hearing on SB189 regarding hybrid/electric vehicles.
Ms. Douglas speaking from a neutral position, noted that the bill was recommended by the Joint Legislative Transportation Vision Task Force and that it creates a new registration category for hybrid/electric vehicles, she said the intent of the bill was to compensate the state for lost fuel taxes. She commented that sometime in the future fees may be based on VMT (Vehicle Miles Traveled), but that current regulations could not accommodate such a basis at the present time.
The Chair closed the hearing on SB189.
