Vice-chairperson Owens opened the hearing on HB2029.

The revisor gave an overview of HB2029(Attachment 12) Questions from the Committee were addressed.

Marc Bennett testified in support of HB2029 on behalf of Tabitha Owen, Smith County Attorney, Kansas Criminal Justice Reform Commission. (Attachment 13)

Proponent written testimony was submitted by Ed Klumpp, Legislative Liaison for Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police; Kansas Sheriff’s Association; and the Kansas Peace Officers Association (Attachment 14)

Opponent written testimony was submitted by Jennifer Roth, Co-chair, Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (Attachment 15)    

Neutral written testimony was submitted by Sara Rust-Martin, Kansas Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence (Attachment 16)

Scott Schultz submitted a HB2029 Prison Bed Impact Assessment for Committee review. (Attachment 17)

Vice-Chair Owens called for final questions from the Committee.

The hearing on HB2029 was closed.
