MINUTES OF THE SENATE COMMERCE COMMITTEE


The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Karin Brownlee at 10:00 A.M. on April 30, 2007 in Room 231-N of the Capitol.

Chairperson Brownlee called the Committee attention to the appointment of Ed McKechnie to the Kansas Bioscience Authority Board. She opened the confirmation hearing by introducing Mr. McKechnie asking him to tell the Committee about himself.


Mr. McKechnie stated he is the Chief Commercial Officer of Watco Companies; 16 railroads which provide rail service in 19 states located in Pittsburg, Kansas. He was a Representative from January 1991 until 2001 in the Kansas House of Representatives and served on House Appropriations, Transportation, Energy and Naturual Resources, State Building Committee, and Joint Committee on Legislative Post Audit. His experience as a Kansas Representative and being in the private business sector will be of benefit for him to be a vital member of the Kansas Bioscience Authority Board. He is committed to the state of Kansas and is very excited about the Kansas Bioscience Authority and what they have done for the state of Kansas and what they can do in the future.


Questions for Mr. McKechnie from the Committee followed.


Senator Barone made a motion to move the confirmation out favorable for the consideration of the full Senate. Senator Jordan seconded. Motion carried.


Chairperson Brownlee adjourned the meeting at 9:40 a.m. with no other meetings scheduled for this session.
