Chairman Wilborn opened the hearing on SB409 - Creating statutory procedures and limitations concerning contact with jurors. Jason Thompson provided an overview of the bill and answered questions from the committee. (Attachment 8)
Senator Pat Pettey spoke in favor of SB409 indicating the need for this bill was brought to her by Judge Burdette who found no recourse of action when approached by a juror requesting help in dealing with inappropriate contact. The bill would provide an avenue for handling such situations. Senator Pettey answered questions from the committee. (Attachment 9)
The Chairman noted written testimony in support of SB409 submitted by Judge J. Dexter Burdette, 29th Judicial District Court. (Attachment 10)
