The Kansas Board of Regents provided information to the committee on the tuition and required fee waivers for foster children. (Attachment 1)

Renee Slinkard, concerned citizen, explained why she supported HB2643.(Attachment 2)

Opponents:

Rep. Louis Ruiz, District 31. He spoke of how one group loses at the expense of another. Short discussion followed.(Attachment 3)

Scott Anglemyer, Kansas Association of Community Action Programs. Current law helps those in low-income households. Without this bill, they won't be able to attend college, which should help them escape poverty. No comments or questions from the committee.(Attachment 4)

Eric Martinez, University of Kansas Student Senate. He spoke on behalf of Many Womack, the KU Student Body President. Their concern is this bill would end the "American dream" for those wanting to attend college. No comments or questions from the committee.(Attachment 5)

Liz Meitl, Mainstream Coalition. All students who graduate from KS high schools deserve an equal opportunity to pursue higher education, regardless of where they were born. No comments are questions from the committee.(Attachment 6)

Guadalupe Magdaleno, Sunflower Community Action. She stated this bill would further divide and misguide the community to believe that undocumented students take resources that do not exist. There were comments from the committee.(Attachment 7)

Pat Cooper, private citizen. Told of a family that benefited from current law.  No comments or questions from the committee.(Attachment 8)

Diosselyn Tot-Velasquiz, El Centro. Her personal story in how she benefited from current law.  A committee member did ask a question.(Attachment 9)
