Short Title

Transferring the responsibility to certify drug abuse treatment providers that participate in the certified drug abuse treatment program from the department of corrections to the Kansas sentencing commission.

Chairperson Owens opened the hearing on HB2517.  Natalie Scott provided an overview of the bill. (Attachment 5)  There were no questions for Ms. Scott.

Scott Schultz testified in support of the bill. The Kansas Sentencing Commission (KSSC) introduced this bill to bring the certification of the substance abuse treatment provider function under the administrative umbrella of the KSSC.  He said this would provide more continuity of services. (Attachment 6) Mr. Schultz stood for questions.

Stuart Little testified in support of the bill.  He stated the transfer of certification from the Kansas Department of Corrections to KSSC should be a streamlining of the process to providers participating in the state program. (Attachment 7) There were no questions for Mr. Little.

There was no neutral or opposition testimony.

Chairperson Owens closed the hearing on HB2517.
