Minutes for HB2596 - Committee on Transportation

Staff briefed the Committee on the contents of this bill. (Attachment 11)

Chairman Proehl recognized Trish Donahue as the first proponent. (Attachment 12) According to Ms Donahue, schools and families across Kansas and the nation are experiencing school bus driver shortages.  She said HopSkipDrive is helping alleviate those problems in nine states and would like to bring their transportation solution to Kansas.

The Chairman drew the Committee's attention to Written Testimony in support of HB2596 by Torree Pederson,  (Attachment 13)

Chairman Proehl recognized Jim Karleskint who stood in opposition to HB2596. (Attachment 14) According to Mr. Karleskint their organization cannot support any bill that could potentially remove the oversight of the high safety expectations that have been put into policy by the Kansas Department of Education and the department that overlooks student transportation.

There were no other proponents, opponents or neutrals so the Chairman closed the hearing on HB2596.

 

Announcement - The Chairman advised the Committee that the next meeting will be on February 10 and the Committee will hear two bills and have final action on several bills.

 

There being no further business before the Committee the meeting was adjourned.
