Mr. Myers responded to questions from the Committee.

Written Testimony in support for HB 2690 was received by:

James Franko, President, Kansas Policy Institute (Attachment 2)

Mark Tallman, Kansas Association of School Boards, provided testimony in opposition of HB 2690. He noted that this bill appears to move to a system which would replace almost $50 million in high density at-risk funding, which can be used for multiple student interventions, with a single use: teacher bonuses based on specific student performance measures. He stated that this bill would make it more difficult to achieve both the improved reading goals set forth in section two of the bill and the purposes of the excellence in teaching program set forth in section four. Mr. Tallman responded to questions from the Committee.

Written Testimony in opposition of HB 2690 was received by:

Judith Deedy, Executive Director, Game On For Kansas Schools (Attachment 4)

Deena Horst and Ben Jones, Legislative Liaisons, Kansas State Board of Education (Attachment 5)

Patty Jurich, President, Kansas Parent Teacher Association (Attachment 6)

Timothy Graham, Director of Government Relations & Coalitions, Kansas National Education Association (Attachment 7)

There being no further conferees, Chairperson Williams closed the hearing on HB 2690.
