Chairperson Warren opened the hearing HB2574.

Jason Thompson, Senior Assistant Revisor, provided an overview of the bill and responded to questions from Committee members. (Attachment 4)

Richard A. Samaniego testified in support of HB2574 providing background information on the Crime Victim Compensation Board (CVCB) including the type of services, cost limitations, and time parameters for which victims may be compensated as the result of being the victim of a violent crime. Last year, the CVCB paid out more than $2.5 million and the Federal government match was 75% of every state dollar spent. The Federal Reconciliation Act addresses some sexual assault issues which the CVCB will be exploring, including the federal match that may be available. (Attachment 5) Mr. Samaniego stood for questions from Committee members.
