Minutes for HB2066 - Committee on Taxation

Short Title

Providing for a property tax exemption for up to two motor vehicles for firefighters and emergency medical service providers.

Mr. Siebers gave an overview for HB2066 that would provide a property tax exemption for up to two motor vehicles owned by a resident individual who is:

  • a firefighter on the date of such individual's application for registration and such individual's status as a firefighter is confirmed by the fire district, fire department or fire company the individual serves; or
  • an emergency medical service provider on the date of such individual's application for registration and such individual's status as an emergency medical service provider is confirmed by the entity the individual serves.

Mr. Siebers stood for questions from Committee members.

Chairperson Smith presented an amendment and explained during the hearing of the bill as it was drafted applied to all firefighters and emergency medical service providers.  The intent of the original bill was just for volunteer members to be provided with the benefit stating the Revisor drafted the bill so it only applied to volunteer service members.  

Representative Smith moved, seconded by Representative Hoheisel to amend HB2066.(Attachment12) 

Committee discussion ensued.

Representative Smith closed on his amendment for HB2066 Motion passed.

Representative Smith moved, seconded by Representative Eplee, the Committee recommends HB2066 be passed as amended.  Motion passed.

Vice Chairperson Bergkamp adjourned the meeting at 4:35 p.m.
