Chairman Thomas opened the hearing on HB2278.
Jason Long, Revisor, gave an overview of the bill. (Attachment 3)
There was a brief discussion.
Leah Fliter, speaking for Kansas Association of School Boards and Kansas National Education Association, spoke as a proponent for the bill. Her organizations believe this bill supports school safety. (Attachment 4)
John Calvert, director of the Safe and Secure Unit of the Kansas State Department of Education was in attendance and the Chairman asked him to come up and speak about this bill. Mr. Calvert noted that this bill will take more employees which will require additional funding. He felt that the fiscal note was appropriate and a good place to start.
The Chairman closed the hearing on HB2278.
