Chair Erickson opened the hearing on HB 2336

Staff provided an overview of the bill.

Proponents:

John Federico, Federico//Duerst Consulting, on behalf of the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority (MTAA) spoke in favor of the bill. (Attachment 1) The bill and proposed amendment to update a 40 plus year statute and increase the MTAA's authority to issue general obligation bonds to facilitate the improvements necessary to modernize the airports and drive economic growth in the area.

Timothy Resner, Legal Counsel, Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority (MTAA)appeared in support of the bill. (Attachment 2) The bill seeks to increase the authority to issue general obligation bonds of certain surplus property airport authorities formed under KSA 27-327 et seq., including the MTAA. The increase in bonding authority will allow the MTAA, working closely with our community leaders, to implement a meaningful plan of action for the airports.

Curtis Sneden, President Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, spoke in favor of the bill. (Attachment 3) The Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce expresses its support for the bill, which increases the bending authority of certain public authorities, in particular the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority.
